__

Special Training 2011 and the Self-Defense Instructors' Conference 2011 will be held at Brockport College, in Brockport, NY, just 11 miles west of Rochester.

Self-Defense Instructors’ Conference

An exciting, intense program with a balance of moving, participatory, and lecture sessions. Sessions reflect the values implicit in the feminist empowerment model of self-defense including racial justice, gender justice, LGBTQ inclusive, and inclusive of a range of physical abilities and ages. SDIC runs concurrent with ST, with an optional Early Program that starts Wednesday afternoon.

Special Training

We come to share our passion for the martial arts and self-defense. We come because some of us rarely have training partners that match our skill, size, strength or temperament. We come to grow as individuals. We come to belong to a community that has been sustaining us for over 30 years. ST is based on a model of cooperative skill sharing across styles, emphasizing principles we have in common and appreciating the many approaches to movement and life.

 Flying

The closest airport is the Rochester International Airport (ROC). The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is about 90 minutes from campus, and the Greater Rochester International Airport about 30 minutes. The price of flying into Rochester has dropped in the last 5 years, so check it out.

Childcare

NWMAF will work with you to meet your childcare needs at camp. We will supply free room and board for a childcare provider you bring for children under 13, or work with you to find a different solution.

Young Martial Artists (YMA) and Teens

The YMA program provides class and social offerings specially targeted at the young, and young at heart. The program will include the opportunity to practice and perform in the demonstration, either individually or as a group. YMA and teens must be registered to attend classes and are welcome to attend either YMA or adult classes based on their interests and experience level.

Demonstration

The Saturday evening Demonstration is open to the public, and is an exciting opportunity to watch women martial artists share their talents.

NWMAF is calling for all interested participants to submit their demonstration information form for the Saturday night All-Camp Demonstration. Our theme this year is “Many Passions, Harmony of Purpose” We encourage women participating in the demonstration to incorporate their own understanding and interpretation of the theme into their demonstration.

Demo Length: Demonstrations must not exceed 3 minutes in length.

Participants: While men and boys are welcome to attend the demonstration, the demonstration participants must be all women and girls.

Deadline: July 5, 2011. We realize that there are situations where it is not possible to finalize organization of a demonstration until participants have arrived on campus, but we request that you complete this application to the best of your ability and submit it by the deadline so that we may plan the demonstration appropriately.

Submit To: demo@nwmaf.org

Demo Format: NEW THIS YEAR The demo has traditionally been performance based, but this year the demo is being expanded to include display based entries. Display based entries may include posters, videos, anime, or other non-live pieces that allow women and girls to represent and share their self-defense and martial arts passions! Non-performance demonstration entries will be displayed during the demo intermission and additional times as appropriate.

Bazaar

Women who wish to sell items during the Friday evening Bazaar may reserve a vendor table on the registration form.
