Special Training and the Self-Defense Instructors' Conference - NWMAF's annual summer conference
You never grow to old to go away to camp!
The NWMAF's main event of the year is a summer conference, which includes Special Training (ST) and the Self-Defense Instructors' Conference (SDIC). ST has been running since 1976, hosted by individuals and schools until 2002, when NWMAF started hosting it directly. SDIC was a Pre-ST program in the 1990s and has grown into a full conference that runs at the same time as ST, with an optional early start.
Special Training is a model of cooperative skill sharing across styles. We emphasize the principles we have in common and appreciate the many different approaches there are to movement and to life. The SDIC program includes physical self-defense, instructional techniques, and relevant cultural issues.
The annual conference is held every summer, usually in mid- to late-July. The SDIC has an optional early start beginning Wednesday afternoon, and the full SDIC program and ST begins Thursday afternoon. About Special Training About SDIC
More NWMAF Events
Women who belong to the NWMAF often hold events in their local communities. These events may be women-only or co-ed - either way, they are supportive environments for learning and achieving excellence in the martial arts. NWMAF members are invited to attend, and instructors from Special Training are often featured. We encourage members to apply for designation as an official NWMAF Endorsed Event. Contact the Events Coordinator for more information.
Other Events for Women in the Martial Arts
The NWMAF is proud to be a sister organization of the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists (PAWMA) and the Association of Women Martial Arts Instructors (AWMAI).

PAWMA hosts a West Coast Women's Training Weekend every summer, typically in late July or August. Visit their website to find out when their conference is for the current year.

AWMAI offers an annual educational conference in the first quarter of each year. Venue and location vary, so visit their website to find out what they are heading to for their next conference.
